Animation Friday: Alex Roman

So normally I post music on friday but seeing how I wrote about animation on Wednesday I thought I might as well continue that today. I just found this animation on one of my fav blogs( s+c) and while I don't know Alex personally I feel it's ok to write about him on Friday because I don't know any of the bands I post on Fridays either (I try to write about people I know).

Anyway, Wednesday's posting on Chris Smallfield (and his lovely girlfriend Anna who both took a pair of weary travelers in from the cold) I thought I would keep this animation week going. Apparently Alex Roman is the man of when it comes to painstaking animation because he created about 10 min worth of photorealistic environments all by himself.

It really messes with your mind...when you watch it, just keep thinking to yourself, "none of what I see here is real." From s+c :

Unlike a grand fantasy, impressive but unattainable, Roman’s detailed, modern, sparse film seems dreamy, yet so close to the truth as to almost be real. It’s like an understandable improvement, an attainable evolution into a world of architectural, environmental, intellectual, elemental, and ecological fusion. A place where all of our potential has been realized.

Well put. Now watch the video.

Stunning.

And that's it for the week. Have a good weekend and if you should find yourself with a moment to contemplate life you might want to send some positive thoughts in the direction of Haiti. I know that's a little absurd to think that some positive vibes will help a devastated region like Haiti but maybe, if we start close to home, if we cannot directly help those directly in the tragic earthquake zone, we can help a friend, family member, a stranger and then that good deed will inspire another, and another, and another and with hope and inspire a good deed somewhere it's needed the most. I know that's the premiss of the movie pay it forward or whatever but honestly, lets just help each other out as much as possiable. There's always hope.

Chase Jarvis has suggestion for photographers to help Haiti too. Just some more to think about. It's also here.

Cheers.
