holidays + onesize

it's been forever since i've had a post, let alone time for a post, but in the interest of the holidays i'll probably continue this little hiatus until january - and with that said, i felt that it's only proper to announce my little hiatus from blogging for the next two weeks or so. and now with that said, i wish everyone a wonderful safe holiday season, may your days and nights be filled with family / friends / loved ones / good times.

also, this might be the last post of 08' (wow, 08' been and gone!) and i stumbled across this gem of a video via s + c. it's absolutely amazing and perfect for a new year. it's really breathtaking (it takes me back to riding a train though beautiful europe, except this a metaphorical train taking me out of a world destroyed into a world of hope).

if your feeling the world is kinda a sad and scary place then watch this, leaves you with hope at the end which is always a good thing, like starting out the year with hope and new beginnings (sounds like and obama thing but really it's just a human thing).

but really, give it a look...it's amazing...

i just watched it again. stunning. the better version (original, nonyoutube) is here.

music: the american dollar
production company: onesize

one more time, happy holidays and everyone be safe out there : )

i had to post that last bit (also inspired from s + c), tis the season :)

music friday / flying lotus

happy friday. in the interest of spreading the word about great music i wanted to post about flying lotus (note that their myspace page is wicked loaded down so itune it and look it up that way).

but rickshaw is an amazing track. really pretty fresh. it's only on the l.a. ep 1X3 but the whole ep is pretty tight.

totally worth a listen.

and from the full length album, los angeles

this track:
comet course

yea. good stuff.

be safe out there.

cheers.

(saving) polaroids II + wall-e/burn-e goodness

cheers to thursday. in line of my last post, today i noticed an interesting use of polaroids (not that it's rare, polaroids pop up everyday), it's a given icon, and polaroids have been used in advertising over and over. for the most part, polaroid usage has never gone away. it appeared pretty front and center today on everybody's favorite web-comeback-kid, myspace (i don't know why i linked that, everybody knows what it is). none-the-less, i happened to be at work today and a friend of mine was bouncing around myspace looking for bands and i happened to see this:

ah yes, the polaroid makes it appearance again. and it's really not that it appeared but it's more the fact that at one point in time polaroids might not appear at all. it's pretty wild that this iconic reference is going to be gone sooner or later. advertising will probably be at a loss(for awhile, maybe). in addition, cool artists who have dedicated side projects to polaroids will be at a loss as well. joos has had some ongoing work with polaroids that's pretty fun, check it out at juicypolaroids.com. fun stuff.

also, if you're a fan of wall-e (absolutely amazing movie) then you'll love this "burn-e" trailer. i can't guarantee how long this will be up because the authorities love to take this stuff down. but here you go if you catch it in time.

fantastic.

adiós.

(saving) polaroid

a lot of people have been talking about the day polaroid film disappears and unfortunately, that day is getting ever closer (rumored 2009). until then i keep hearing about people unloading all types for profit.

the always flashy cnn has pretty good article about the loss of polaroid.

they also mention a site out to keep polaroids alive, savepolaroid.com. if you're into polaroid and are going to miss it when it's gone, maybe take some action via savepolaroid.com. they have a wealth of info relating everything in education to taking action to saving polaroids.

i know for one i'm going to miss it. i have a few gems of my own...

classic. the spe closing day polaroid session will be missed for sure. i believe that midwest photo exchange had something to do with that (i *think* but can't remember) and i don't know if it will be around in dallas but here's to hoping...

hope the start of your week is fab...

cheers.

ryan adams (music friday)

another quick one this friday night but i i stumbled across this acoustic version of halloweenhead via stereogum.

love or hate ryan adams (i know people have mixed feelings, i happen to think ryan's pretty freaking awesome) but this is a pretty nice version of halloweenhead...oh, and the stuffed animals are apparently named wilson and barabus...

happy friday...

josh sathre + how i killed mumblecore + your portfolio

i just wanted to throw this out.

a good friend of mine josh sathre has notified me of a film screening for How I Killed Mumblecore on friday december 5th at st. pauls cathedral (2215 w north ave, chicago, il).

i have to say i actually don't know a whole lot about the film (other than the trailer below) and the listing on imdb is blank but there is cast and crew info but there you go.

if you're out to support indy films then go, it should be a good show, i'm going to try to make it out...from the release:

Many of you know that most of my winter was spent working on a no-budget feature film. Well, we’re just about done with it and are having a screening for the cast and crew on Friday, Dec 5th... While this isn’t the premiere, the filmmakers are inviting friends to come and see this almost finished version. So on the 5th of December, please try and make it to St. Paul’s Cathedral in Wicker Park. It’s within a couple blocks of the Damen Blue Line stop, or the North or Damen buses. Starting at 9:00 PM, we will have music, an opening reception, and be selling raffle tickets. The screening starts at 10:00 PM with raffle drawing and Q & A to follow. Please be advised that seating IS limited.

Cast and crew get in free, otherwise we are asking a suggested donation of $10 at the door. All funds raised toward finishing the film, including film festival submissions (not cheap), blank DVDs, etc. Again, this is a sneak preview of an almost finished version.

and again, here's the trailer:

anyway, shout out to josh, hopefully there is a good turnout...

oh and one of my favored blogs, industrial brand blog has a great interview about building a photography portfolio. it's worth a read but it's pretty much as you would expect, be different, be professional and work hard. all keys, all difficult to do because it's different every time you do it.

anyway, more to come...

cheers.

new posts + theo janson

after an expected week away/unexpected week away from blogger, i'm back posting on photography, art and whatever else surfaces (usually music).

for the first monday back i just wanted to post on theo janson. this is kinda dated and a lot of people have watched/seen his work but it's truly amazing if you haven't had a chance to catch it. theo's a dutch artist and he's created creatures that are as much art as they are engineering.

from the upcoming film strandbeest:

STRANDBEESTEN_TRAILER from Alexander Schlichter on Vimeo.

and from the ever amazing ted (also where i first learned of theo):

like i said, it's all a bit dated (although, i only heard of it a couple of months ago) so if you have seen it already pass it on to somebody who hasn't but it's...well, as i said, amazing.

oh and if you haven't noticed, here in the north, winter has arrived...

happy monday.
